Beginners to fitness tend to be fearful of being sore post workout. They want to take it extremely slow to avoid stiff muscles and tightness. The fact of the matter is you're going to be sore no matter what. If you have gone an extended period of time without exercise then there is a high probability you will be sore. Your best bet is to rip off the band-aid and stop prolonging the inevitable.
Eventually the soreness with subside and you will be able to grow in strength and endurance without the long bouts of pain. The soreness is due to microscopic tears in the muscle as a result of muscle lengthening exercises which cause pain and stiffness. It is a sign that you are using your muscles in a way that you had not previously. So don't sweat being sore. It will go away at some point and you will be on your way to a physical transformation.
